Stablecoins: podcast episodes, research and news
Overview
Stablecoins are crypto tokens designed to hold a steady value, usually one US dollar. They are backed by cash and short-term government debt, by crypto collateral, or by hedged trading positions. They have become crypto's most used product: the dollar people hold on-chain, the settlement asset for trading, and a cheaper way to move money across borders. Their growth has also raised harder questions about reserves, about yield, and about who keeps the interest the reserves earn. Laws such as the GENIUS Act in the United States and MiCA in the European Union now set rules for who can issue them.
Hodl Up has covered stablecoins from several sides. Xuling of Unitas Labs explains USDu, a stablecoin whose yield comes from hedged, market-neutral positions rather than directional bets. She also covers how designs like it held up during the market turbulence of October 2025. Ben Nadareski of Solstice joined us twice, at Breakpoint in Abu Dhabi and again at Proof of Talk in Paris. He talked about building a stablecoin and yield protocol on Solana and about the launch of the SLX token.
The payments side runs through the archive too. Merita Spahiu of CashXChain explains blockchain as B2B payment infrastructure. Pauline of WeSplit shows what happens when friends split a bill in USDC and SOL. Arthur and Ashna of Mercuryo cover the fiat on-ramps that turn local currency into stablecoins and back, while staying compliant. Gideon Greaves of Lisk argues that the first wave of real blockchain adoption is happening in emerging markets, where stablecoins already solve everyday problems.
Stablecoins are also spreading to chains that never had them. Orkun Kılıç of Citrea describes ctUSD, the stablecoin at the center of his Bitcoin layer. Jordan Jefferson explains how DogeOS wants to bring stablecoins to Dogecoin, one of the most decentralized proof-of-work networks.
This hub gathers those episodes with our stablecoin research, guides and news. If you're new, start with the guides on how stablecoins work and how USDT and USDC differ. Then move to the episodes to see how builders actually use them.

Blockchain as B2B Payment Infrastructure
While in Paris, we had the chance to interview Merita Spahiu from CashXChain and discuss the real-world issues stablecoins can be used to solve.
Reconnecting With Ben: The SLX TGE, Community Feedback & The Future of Solstice
While in Paris, we had an insightful discussion with Ben Nadareski, the CEO of Solstice, about the recent SLX TGE, the community feedback, the whole thought process behind it, and what lies ahead.
Onramps, stablecoins & regulations
This market is crowded, and trust is starting to separate serious players from the rest, especially with onboarding solutions. We talked about MiCA as part of that shift, a cleaner rulebook for companies trying to build real infrastructure, at a time when fraud is getting smarter across both TradFi and crypto.
U.S. Venture Capital is Structurally Broken
Capital has been delivering negative returns while emerging markets offer rational valuations and real businesses. We sat down with Gideon Greaves from Lisk to discuss the $15M Lisk EMpower Fund and emerging market opportunities.
Bringing Institutional Grade DeFi to Solana
Insightful discussion at Breakpoint 2025 with Ben in Abu Dhabi. We went deep in USX, eUSX, and the upcoming SLX TGE, scheduled to happen in Q2 of 2026.
The Stablecoin Narrative: How Long Will it Last?
We had a chill chat with Xuling from Unitas Labs at Breakpoint 2025 in Abu Dhabi. USDu yield-bearing stables, onchain delta-neutral, real yield w/o banks, Orca & Kamino integrations.

Frequently asked questions
What is a stablecoin?
A token designed to keep a stable price, usually $1. Most are backed by cash and Treasury bills held by an issuer. Others use crypto collateral or hedged positions.
What is a yield-bearing stablecoin?
A stablecoin that passes returns on to holders, from Treasury interest, lending or market-neutral trading. Unitas Labs and Solstice explain two designs in their episodes. The risk depends on where the yield comes from.
Are stablecoins regulated?
Increasingly. The EU regulates issuers under MiCA, and in 2025 the US passed the GENIUS Act, which sets rules for payment stablecoin issuers. How yield and foreign issuers are treated is still being settled.
Which Hodl Up episodes cover stablecoin payments?
CashXChain on B2B payments, Mercuryo on fiat on-ramps, WeSplit on splitting bills in crypto, and Lisk's Gideon Greaves on how stablecoins are used in emerging markets.
